Chiropractic adjustments have been used for many years to help individuals attain better health. The doctor of chiropractic focuses on the nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) which controls the body's chemical interactions to help ensure proper function. The brain sends messages through the spinal cord to nerves which deliver information to every cell, organ, and system of the body. The nervous system coordinates all the functions of your body including your ability to concentrate, physical coordination and the integrity of the immune system.
When bones of the spine become misaligned or move out of their normal position, they can distort the flow of information from the brain to the body. When chiropractors gently correct these misalignments (or vertebral subluxations), they help to restore the nervous system and thereby, the body's ability to control and coordinate its many functions.
Atlas Orthogonal is a special chiropractic technique that utilizes a very precise adjusting instrument. Atlas is the top bone of the spine. It is the vertebrae that the head sits on. Orthogonal means at right angles, or square. The atlas should be sitting level, or square, on the cervical spine (neck), and the head should be square on the atlas. If the atlas is misaligned (subluxated) it causes the head to tilt. The body instinctively tries to straighten the head up while keeping the head over the feet (center of gravity). This causes STRESS throughout the rest of the spine, the shoulders, the pelvis, the hips, the knees, and the ankles.
The precision of the Atlas Orthogonal instrument allows for an adjustment that requires such a light force that patients find it hard to believe anything effective has been accomplished. They are soon assured that it has made a difference when their pain and discomfort quickly disappear.
Dr. Prather has been a certified Atlas Orthogonist for over 12 years. He has administered thousands of adjustments to patients from all over the country and is one of only two certified Atlas Orthogonist in the state of Indiana.
Electrodermal Screening (EDS)
The EDS was developed by a German physician, Dr. Reinhold Voll. This is an FDA approved instrument used by Prather Wellness Center that works by the laws of physics to measure stress in the body. EDS reading are taken by using a small probe that passes a low-level current, which the patient cannot feel, through the body. Readings are taken on two acupuncture points on each fingertip and toe that correspond to various organs and systems throughout the body.
These readings are then used by our office to determine when an individual needs a nutritional supplement, homeopathic remedy, or other treatment to bring the body back into balance, which is essential to achieve whole body wellness.
For the body to function properly all cells must receive the proper nutrients. When one part of the body is not functioning at an optimal level the entire body is affected. Proper nutrition will help cells to repair and maintain themselves throughout the life of an individual, thus allowing them to function properly.
Prather Wellness Center provides nutritional counseling to patients upon request. The professional staff at Prather Wellness Center is able to accurately create a personalized nutritional program for patients. Each patient will be able to meet with the nutritionist to develop a personalized program that addresses what vitamins and minerals are needed for the body to function at optimal levels.
We carry a full line of vitamins, supplements, herbal formulations and homeopathic products available to patients. All orders are available for pick-up, or delivery via UPS. Simply call our office at 1-800-766-4011 to place your order (Our products on-line are currently being updated).
Meridian therapy is the accepted name employed by those who practice the principle of Acupuncture without the use of a penetrating needle.
Acupuncture is a principle, not a technique. Therefore, there are many ways to stimulate an Acupoint other than a needle, just as there are many different strokes used in swimming. Many practitioners use electronic stimulation, laser beam or pressure massage to treat an Acupoint. The principle of Acupuncture does not change, only the technique.
Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science which is used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body. Historians have stated, "More people have benefited from Acupuncture over the course of fifty centuries than the combined total of all other healing sciences, both ancient and modern."
Dr. Robert Prather is a licensed acupuncturist helping patients with many conditions, including; acute and chronic pain relief, migraine, tension cluster and sinus headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, bladder dysfunction, bed wetting, cervical (neck) pain, and mid-back pain, low shoulder, tennis elbow, post-operative pain relief, gastric problems, asthma, allergies, skin conditions, hemorrhoids, abnormal blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, neurologic syndrome, various eye problems, as well as addiction control, etc.
The auricular machine has an amazing ability to help start the healing process in patients. A small amount of current is sent through certain acupuncture points located on the ear (sometimes on the body). This current triggers the brain and body to start healing the areas of the body not functioning properly.
The Chinese had mapped numerous acupuncture points on the ear. In the 1950s a French neurosurgeon, Dr. Paul Nogier, made it applicable to Western medicine by mapping the body on the ear.
We use a micro current that mimics the body's healing frequency to stimulate specific acupuncture points. Auricular therapy has been used extensively to treat pain and addiction disorders.
The diathermy instrument draws blood into the region it is placed and helps to heal the area and fight infection. It was originally developed to treat lung disease (i.e. pneumonia) but has the ability to treat lung infections, ear problems, sinus problems, bladder and kidney infections and other conditions.

Micro Current is a therapy used by Prather Wellness Center to help patients with various conditions. The micro current can be used to decrease pain and inflammation in a patient. The current imitates the body's own electricity and also has the ability to actually help heal nerves. The Micro Current therapy has also proven to be useful for making scar tissue less apparent.
QRS (Quantum Resonance System)
The QRS was developed for Space Station Astronauts as a way to help them regain the rigidity in their cell walls. After astronauts returned from a space station they typically had to go to an Oxygen chamber for approximately nine months. The QRS is an electrical unit that restores rigidity in the cell walls and helps to boost energy. It also helps to rebuild the bone structure and strengthen it. Astronauts who used the QRS unit were able to cut down the amount of time they had to spend in an Oxygen chamber after returning to earth from nine months to one month.
The spinalator is used to help change the curvature of the spine back to its normal curve. It also helps to pump cerebrospinal fluid throughout the spine which is an important nutrient rich fluid that circulates around and through the brain and spinal cord. The spinalator can be used to help patients with abnormal spinal curves.
Prather Wellness Center also offers a Variety of Diagnostic Tests, Depending on Your Individual Needs
- Body Composition Testing
- J-Tech Muscle Analysis
- Comprehensive Blood Profile
- Hair Analysis
- Hormone Testing
- Lung Function Tests
- Stool Testing
Prather Wellness Center utilizes a professional laboratory that specializes in blood analysis. This is a thorough profile, developed by a group of diagnostic physicians, to assess an individual's overall health. The results are used as a road map to aid the practitioner in determining the appropriate course of treatment for each individual.
Hair analysis is used to determine mineral levels present in the body. Through this analysis the practitioner is able to accurately determine mineral deficiencies, or conversely, mineral toxicities.
Prather Wellness Center offers hormone testing to help understand a patient's current condition. Hormone testing allows our center to help individualize our treatment.
Lung Function Tests
This test is used to determine how well an individuals lungs are functioning. This spirometry (lung function test) will allow the practitioner to attain information vital to diagnosing what problems a patient may be having.
Stool testing is used to help determine if there are any infections or parasites in the bowel. Stool testing helps give the practitioner a better understanding of what is happening throughout the digestive and excretory systems of the body.
Prather Wellness Center has a complete x-ray department which is used to assist the doctor in determining a patient's condition. Patients are examined by the doctor prior to taking radiographs to determine if they are necessary prior to a patient going to the x-ray department. A wide variety of radiographs are available here at our center depending on patient's patient's individual needs. Radiographs can be taken of the complete spine, or of individual areas of the spine; including the cervical, thoracic, pelvis or lumbar regions. Radiographs for Scoliosis study, and of other areas of the body, including the elbow, wrist, hand, knee, ankle, and foot can also be taken in our x-ray department. Due to our digital capabilities, these images can be viewed by the doctor in only a few minutes and then gone over with the patient.
